The principal woods used for the production of Indonesian furniture are Teak and Mahogany. Mahogany is cheaper than teak and is used where the furniture price is the primary concern. Indonesia also produces substantial quantities of rattan furniture and the main hub for this production is Cirebon on Java. There are also specialized businesses producing bamboo furniture.

Indonesian Teak is second only to Burmese teak in quality but legally harvested Burmese teak is almost impossible to obtain whereas Indonesia has proper government systems to provide legal and sustainable teak supplies for the Indonesian furniture industry.

Indonesian teak furniture is produced throughout Indonesia but the main production centers for export are based in Jepara, Solo, Surabaya and Jogjakarta on the island of Java and Bali island (although much of the Balinese furniture is, in fact, imported from Java). Specialized furniture factories in Semarang and Bandung (also in Java) also supply the export market. Some businesses have their marketing and head offices in the capital, Jakarta, but actual furniture production will usually be carried out in other provinces.
